These terms apply when you use the LockyLearn app. They are written in plain English. By creating an account or using the app, you agree to them. Our privacy policy explains what we do with personal information.
Who we are
LockyLearn is provided by Lockshield Learning Ltd, registered in England and Wales under company number 16682264. You can contact us at [email protected].
What LockyLearn does
LockyLearn gives a child one place to reach their homework, locked to the homework services chosen for them, so that they cannot wander elsewhere. Where a service needs a login, the app signs your child in with the details you save on your device.
The homework services themselves are run by other organisations, such as your child's school, its suppliers, or the publishers of the free sites in home learning. Their own terms apply to what happens inside them. We do not control them, and a service may change, stop working in the app, or become unavailable for a while.
Your account
- Accounts are for parents and carers aged 18 or over. Children never need an account.
- Keep your password to yourself. You are responsible for what happens under your account.
- The details you give us must be accurate. Only add homework logins that you or your child are entitled to use.
- You can delete your account at any time in the app, in the Parents Area.
How you get access
There are two ways to use LockyLearn:
- Provided by your school. If your child's school provides LockyLearn, it is free for you: the school has paid. You sign in with the login the school gives you, or create your account with the school's LockyLearn code.
- Home learning. If your school does not provide LockyLearn, you can subscribe yourself. A home learning subscription unlocks a selection of free learning websites in the app.
If your child's school provides LockyLearn, you should not pay for it as well. Ask your school for its code, or contact us and we will set you up. If you already subscribe to home learning when your school starts providing LockyLearn, enter the school's code in the Parents Area, then cancel your subscription in your Apple ID or Google Play settings. We cannot cancel it for you.
When your school provides LockyLearn
- A school's code is for its own families. Please do not share it outside the school community, for example on social media. We may replace a code that has been shared, and we may move an account made with a code that was not meant for it to home learning.
- It lasts as long as the school's contract with us. Contracts normally run to the end of the school year. When a school's contract ends, your account stays open, with your children and settings just as they were, and moves to home learning, where you can subscribe to carry on. If the school renews, your account goes back to the school.
- Which homework services you can reach is up to the school, and may change during the year.
Home learning subscriptions
- Price. The price is shown in the app before you subscribe, in your currency, including any taxes: for example £2.99 a month or £29.99 a year in the UK.
- Free trial. If a free trial is offered, it is shown before you subscribe. It is for new subscribers only. If you do not cancel before it ends, your subscription starts and you are charged.
- Payment. You pay through the App Store or Google Play, using the account you are signed in to there. Apple or Google take the payment, under their own terms.
- Renewal. Your subscription renews automatically at the end of each period, at the price then in force, unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the period ends.
- Cancelling. You can cancel at any time, in your Apple ID or Google Play settings. The app's Subscription screen links there. Your access continues until the end of the period you have paid for.
- Refunds. Refunds are handled by Apple or Google, under their policies. This does not affect your legal rights.
- Price changes. If we change the price, Apple or Google will tell you before it applies, and you can cancel before then.
- Deleting your account does not cancel a subscription. Cancel it in your Apple ID or Google Play settings first.
Using the app fairly
Please do not misuse the app: for example, by trying to get around the way it restricts access, by using it to reach services you are not entitled to use, or by interfering with how it works. We may suspend or close an account that is used in these ways, and we will tell you why unless the law prevents us.
Keeping a child safe
LockyLearn helps keep a child within their homework, but no app can guarantee it on its own. For the strongest protection, turn on Guided Access (iPhone and iPad) or app pinning (Android), as the app shows you, and keep an eye on younger children as you would with any device.
Changes to the app and these terms
We improve LockyLearn over time and may change or remove features. If we change these terms in a way that matters to you, we will tell you in the app or by email before the change applies. If you do not agree to the new terms, you can stop using the app and delete your account, and cancel any subscription.
Our responsibility to you
We provide LockyLearn with reasonable care and skill, and nothing in these terms limits your rights under consumer law or our liability where the law does not allow it to be limited, such as for death or personal injury caused by negligence. We are not responsible for the homework services run by others, or for losses we could not reasonably have foreseen.
The law that applies
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you may also bring proceedings in your own courts.
